HS Photos is the photography page of Hans Schmidt, a photographer based in Cairns Nth Queensland. Hans is an accredited photographic judge through the Photographic Society of Queensland (PSQ). He grew up in Sydney and started his interest in photography in the sixties. His employment provided opprtunities to travel around the state and this provided opportunities for photography. His interest has continued to the present day and is continually evolving.
He moved with his family to Cairns in the mid eighties and enjoys the lifestyle and climate. His journey into the digital era started in the late nineties with a Sony Mavica camera which had the grand resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, a thumbnail by todays standards, and the storage media was a floppy disk. He purchased his first DSLR in 2005, a Canon 350D and has stayed with the Canon brand since. His current Camera is the 7D and he has a number of lens in his arsenal to handle his interests.
Whilst he will photograph in any genre, his main interests are Landscape and Macro photography. Hans Like the extreme wide angles that panoramas and wide angle lens afford, and has manufactured a filter housing for his fisheye lens to allow long exposure phtography with this lens, somewhat unique for this specific lens. He has been featured for his macro photography in the Australian Photo Review.
As a member of the Cairns Photographic Society he has exhibited in themed Exhibitions at the Cairns Regional Gallery and the Tanks Art Centre.
He conducts judging on request by photographic clubs and show societies. He has judged an number of shows through the far north and club judgings within the state and interstate and New Zealand.
He enters competitions both locally and internationally and has achieved awards in a number of these competitions.
